As a Major General, he recently left full time service with the Australian Defence Force(ADF), where he was responsible for the operation of the Defence global information, communications technology networks and the cyber security for the Department.
He is passionate about assisting industry in developing strategies and the team to take organisations to the next level in digital transformation. Most recently he drove the modernisation of the Defence networks, with a focus on cloud computing, application development, cyber security strategy and uplift, network resilience, satellite communications, AI automation and the enhancement of customer experience through improved digital channels and remote access.
Apart from a distinguished military career, Murray has worked for Coles Group on secondment and been a public servant project manager within the Australian Agency for International Development.
In 2015 he was awarded the Conspicuous Service Cross for his strategic leadership and planning on ADF operations in Afghanistan, Iraq and Sovereign Borders. In 2021 he was made a Member of the Order of Australia for outstanding service in capability development for the Australian Army and his work on the strategy, resilience and modernisation of the Defence communication networks.
Murray is presently a member of the Optus Strategic Advisory Board, previously chaired the five eyes Combined Communications Electronics Board as well been a member of the UNSW School of Engineering and Information Technology Advisory Board. He holds masters degrees in management and international relations and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
