Mike Milford is a seasoned senior public executive renowned for his adept leadership in ICT and operations management across Defence and Home Affairs in fields including business operations, strategy development, and change management. With a wealth of experience spanning various high-profile roles, he has proven instrumental in driving pivotal outcomes in challenging environments.
As Group Manager - Technology and Major Capability at the Department of Home Affairs from May 2019 to early 2024, Michael oversaw all facets of ICT delivery and operations, including cyber security and program delivery. His strategic acumen and proactive approach have significantly enhanced the department's capabilities, earning recognition as a trusted partner in delivering critical programs.
Prior to his current position, Michael held key leadership roles such as First Assistant Secretary Major Capability Division and Chief Information Officer at the Department of Immigration and Border Protection/Home Affairs. Here, he spearheaded major improvements in ICT governance and forged strong relationships with stakeholders, contributing to the successful delivery of strategic projects.
With a distinguished military background at the rank of Major General and including roles such as Head ICT Operations Division and Director of Strategy and International Engagement at Army Headquarters, Michael brings a unique blend of strategic insight and operational expertise to his leadership positions.
Michael holds a Master of National Resource Strategy from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, and his exemplary service has been recognized with honours such as the Member of the Order of Australia.
